QCA and FTH present ACP Live: Jaime Sunwoo

Queens Council on the Arts’ Artist Commissioning Program (ACP) and Flushing Town Hall are pleased to present ACP Live – a work in progress showcase and discussion of Jaime Sunwoo’s Specially Processed American Me, a new surreal autobiographical performance selected by Flushing art commissioners.

In honor of the 70th anniversary of the Korean War, ACP Art Commissioner and moderator Sejin Park will lead a panel discussion with questions inspired by the themes Sunwoo explores in her play– family, identity, immigration, and war trauma– as an opportunity to reflect on how the war has shaped the Korean American community. We welcome people of all ages to join the conversation. The event will include Korean subtitles.

This is a free event with a suggested donation. All proceeds will be donated to Queens Council on the Arts and Korean American Family Service Center.

About “Specially Processed American Me”
Jaime Sunwoo’s latest project is a surreal autobiographical performance using SPAM, the canned meat, as a portal into her Asian American upbringing and her family’s experiences of the Korean War. It investigates SPAM’s legacy in the military, its significance in the Asia-Pacific, and its influence on Asian cuisine through music, shadowplay, and cooking. Oscillating wildly between absurd humor and sober tragedy, Specially Processed American Me is a thought-provoking exploration of one of America’s most misunderstood foods. 퀸즈 문화예술위원회(QCA)의 작가 의뢰 프로그램(ACP)이 플러싱 타운홀과 손을 잡아 “ACP 라이브”를 공개합니다. 이번 ACP 라이브에서는 현재 제작중인 Jaime Sunwoo 작가의 초현실적 자전적 공연 “Specially Processed American Me”의 쇼케이스 및 관객과의 대화가 있을 예정입니다.

ACP의 박세진 위원이 사회를 맡을 본 패널 대화에서는 한국전쟁의 70주기를 맞아 선우 작가의 작품 속에 담긴 가족애, 자아, 이민, 전쟁 트라우마 등의 주제를 통해 한국전쟁이 재미교포 사회에 끼친 영향을 살펴봅니다. 본 행사는 모든 연령대가 참관 가능하며, 한국 자막이 포함됩니다.

본 행사의 입장료는 무료이나 기부를 권장하며, 전 금액 퀸즈 문화예술위원회와 뉴욕가정상담소에 전달됩니다.
