Memories of Migration Story-Sharing and Exhibit Closing

Join the Queens Memory team at the Queens Museum for an afternoon of story sharing. The theme is “Memories of Migration,” in honor of the exhibition “Making Community Story Quilts,” which closes today. The exhibit features a handmade quilt created at the Flushing Library in a series of workshops over the summer of 2018. To create the quilt, artist Naomi Kuo led community members and guest artists from across Queens in an exploration of textile arts, storytelling, skill sharing, and audio electronics. The quilt they created captured their families’ migration stories, through both visual design and in audio recordings you can hear by pressing buttons on the quilt.

At this story-sharing day, we will pick up on their theme to share stories of our families’ migrations and the homes we have known throughout our lives. We will also play a game of Memory Kaleidoscope — a visual storytelling card game that uses selected artworks to encourage people to share personal memories while practicing active listening. Please join us for this thoughtful program!
