In the Spring 2016 semester, Queens Memory partnered with a Queens College Public History class taught by Professor Johnathan Thayer and the Olde Towne of Flushing Burial Ground Conservancy. Students conducted oral history interviews and other original research to explore and document the history of community activists who have fought to restore the Olde Towne of Flushing Burial Ground's status as sacred ground. Robbie Garrison, a leader of the Conservancy, was an integral community partner in this project. Students shared their results at a standing-room-only public presentation on May 24, 2016. The conference session linked here is a panel discussion with faculty, students, community members and Queens Memory staff describing this project. It was part of the CUNY Center for the Humanities Afterlives: Place, Memory, Story conference in October, 2016.
